Bronze stock used to make replacement main bearing for 25hp Titan engine. Note the wear on the original main bearing.
This Titan engine had one set of brass and one set of babbitt main bearing inserts. The babbitt bearings were severely cracked so I replaced them with a set of bronze bearings machined from the bronze stock pictured in center of photo.
Getting started on one of the 60# pieces of bronze required to make each set of bearings.
First Titan bearing, machined to size, sits atop bronze stock which will become second main bearing.
25hp Titan crankshaft. The crankpin was cut to .065 undersize, the rod bearing was machined at the parting, a shim pack was made, and the bearing was bored to size.
Finished Titan main bearings ready for installation. Not pictured are four newly constructed shim packs to be used with the new bearings.
