Visual Tour

This is the fourth of four sets of "odds and ends" that show various aspects of Gaffrey Babbitting other than a specific job.

My good friend and ex-Korean POW, Louie, helps clear the site for the new Gaffrey Babbitting shop in the Black Hills.

Lineboring a V12 Lincoln.  Seven cylinder sleeves were installed, the deck was resurfaced, and the block was bored and honed to .030.
Cast rod and main bearing inserts for a 1922 Willys Overland.
The rear main bearing of a Model A Ford with bronze thrust washers in place of the babbitted flange.
Rod and a 60 hp Fairbanks Morse engine and generator.
Five years after repairs began, and with a lot of help from my son, Matt, brother, Gerard, and nephew, Mitch, this 75hp Fairbanks Morse semi-diesel is ready to start. It was really sweet when it popped off for the first time.
When my brother, John, isn't working on this website or teaching computer science, he's usually working in the woods.
Rod's 32hp Fairbanks Morse Hit and Miss engine.
Wallis main bearings finished to .030 undersize.
